چکیده

Abstract Chemical preservatives can alter stable isotope ratios in animal tissues. The effects of preservation on δ 13 C and 15 N values have been investigated a variety species, but not 2 H or the freshwater pearl mussel (FPM, Margaritifera margaritifera ) We evaluated effect ethanol (unpreserved vs preserved tissues) over 6 months C, FPM foot gonad Ethanol significantly increased (foot 0.4 ‰; 0.3 ‰), whereas it did affect 0.2 − 0.1 ‰). positive 7.1 14.5 ‰) negative C:N 0.1; 0.5) depended tissue type, with larger found lipid-rich gonad. Overall, affected more than After 1 month preservation, remained rather stable, significant changes were only observed values. results imply that ethanol-preserved samples be used if potential shifts isotopic elemental are accounted for prior running mixing models estimating dietary proportions.

Characterization of cyclophilin D in freshwater pearl mussel (Hyriopsis schlegelii)

Cyclophilin D (referred to as HsCypD) was obtained from the freshwater pearl mussel (Hyriopsis schlegelii). The full-length cDNA was 2 671 bp, encoding a protein consisting of 367 amino acids. HsCypD was determined to be a hydrophilic intracellular protein with 10 phosphorylation sites and four tetratricopeptide repeat (TPR) domains, but no signal peptide. The core sequence region YKGCIFHRIIKDF...

Strong evidence for terrestrial support of zooplankton in small lakes based on stable isotopes of carbon, nitrogen, and hydrogen.

Cross-ecosystem subsidies to food webs can alter metabolic balances in the receiving (subsidized) system and free the food web, or particular consumers, from the energetic constraints of local primary production. Although cross-ecosystem subsidies between terrestrial and aquatic systems have been well recognized for benthic organisms in streams, rivers, and the littoral zones of lakes, terrestr...

Effects of preservation method on stable carbon and nitrogen isotope values.

Some methods of tissue preservation have significant effects on values of stable isotopes of carbon (delta(13)C) and nitrogen (delta(15)N), but studies on this topic are scattered in the literature. The goals of this study were to (1) summarize the results from studies of preservation effects in the literature and (2) test the effects of four common preservatives on delta(13)C and delta(15)N in...

Assessing the Utility of Hydrogen, Carbon and Nitrogen Stable Isotopes in Estimating Consumer Allochthony in Two Shallow Eutrophic Lakes

Hydrogen stable isotopes (δ2H) have recently been used to complement δ13C and δ15N in food web studies due to their potentially greater power to separate sources of organic matter in aquatic food webs. However, uncertainties remain regarding the use of δ2H, since little is known about the potential variation in the amount of exchangeable hydrogen (Hex) among common sample materials or the patte...

Transcriptome analysis of the freshwater pearl mussel, Hyriopsis cumingii (Lea) using illumina paired-end sequencing to identify genes and markers

The transcriptome of triangle sail mussel Hyriopsis cumingii (Lea) using Illumina paired-end sequencing technology was conducted and analyzed. Equal quantities of total RNA isolated from six tissues, including gonad, hepatopancreas, foot, mantel, gill and adductor muscle, were pooled to construct a cDNA library. A total of 58.09 million clean reads with 98.48 % Q20 bases were generated. Cluster...
